Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a doctor’s referral to receive physiotherapy treatment?
A referral from your doctor is not required, however some extended health benefit plans require a medical referral. Therefore, it is best to first check with your insurance provider.
What should I wear?
It's advised to wear loose and comfortable clothes, or workout attire, during your physiotherapy session. Skin exposure of the body part being treated is often necessary so please be prepared with appropriate clothing.
Does OHIP cover any of my physiotherapy sessions?
Unfortunately, no. You are responsible to pay for your appointment upfront with your physiotherapist. We will provide you a receipt that you can submit to your extended health benefit provider for reimbursement.
I was in a motor vehicle accident (MVA), do you accept MVA claims?
We do not accept MVA claims at this time. However, we do assess and treat patients who have been injured in an MVA as long as they are paying out of pocket. Please contact us for more details and clarifications.
How many treatments will I need?
Every injury, condition, and individual is different. During your initial assessment, you and your physiotherapist will discuss your treatment plan and establish client-centered goals. Your physiotherapist will provide you with an estimated time frame in which your goals should be met. If at any time during your rehabilitation process you are unsure as to 'how much longer' it will take, please bring it up to your physiotherapist and they will be happy to discuss your prognosis.
How much of my physiotherapy cost does my extended health plan cover?
Everyone's health plan is different. It is best to contact your extended health benefit provider ahead of time to know the extent of your coverage details.
I was injured at work and I plan to claim my physiotherapy treatment through WCB. Do you accept WBC claims?
We do not accept claims from WBC recipients. However, we do assess and treat patients who have been injured at work as long as they pay out of pocket. Please contact us for more information.
How long is each session?
In-person appointments, whether initial assessment or follow-up sessions, last approximately 1 hour. Please be advised that there will be a few minutes at the beginning and the end of your appointment allocated for setup and administration. Please visit our “Book an Appointment” page for more details.
Do you direct bill my extended health benefits?
Unfortunately, no. You are responsible to pay for your appointment upfront with your physiotherapist. We will provide you a receipt that you can submit to your extended health benefit provider for reimbursement. See our “First Appointment” page for more details.
Should I bring my imaging results (i.e x-rays or MRI) to my appointment?
Absolutely! If you have the written report, please bring it with you to your appointment. An image can provide more detailed information to your physiotherapist.
Should I still make an appointment to see a physiotherapist if I'm waiting to get my imaging appointment or results (i.e x-rays, MRI, ultrasound)?
Yes, you can still book an appointment for physiotherapy even if you do not have imaging. Most diagnosis can be made during the appointment without the need of an image. Often times the treatment plan will be identical with or without an image provided. If your physiotherapist deems that an image is necessary to progress with treatment, you will be referred back to you family doctor for a requisition.
